With the holiday season underway, we want to take the time to reflect on what the holiday spirit means to us at SASSI. Though this is the season of giving, the salon and spa industry has done a lot to give back to their communities throughout the entire year. Let’s take a look at a few of the charitable efforts organized by our favorites in the industry to help inspire you to continue to do so in the New Year:
SASSI’s Salon Secrets contest opened our eyes to the great deal of good that salons and spas, around the country, do for their communities.
In particular, Finally Lisa’s Hair & Nail Salon, our contest winner, has been dedicated to fundraising for cancer-related causes through their Pink Campaign for the past 11 years. During this time, they have raised $30,000, with $3,800 just this year. All proceeds were donated to the Cancer Center at Harrington, Umass Pink Revolution, American Cancer Society and local families with anonymous gift cards to help with groceries.
Beyond our own network, we wanted to look at some of the charitable work from salons around the country. The two salons below were awarded for their philanthropic efforts by Salon Today Magazine.
Connecting communities on different sides of the world, The B Hive Organic Salon collaborated with Wine and Spirits to host an event that supported Justice and Soul. The Cambodia-based charity aims to equip trafficked and at-risk young adults with professional training in cosmetology to help them build confidence and skills.
Taking matters into their own hands, S Salon and Studio created their own nonprofit called Project Fairbanks. The nonprofit works with the local Fairbanks, Alaska community to raise awareness on topics like cancer, recycling and art. Through their recycling efforts, the city recently granted the nonprofit a 16-foot trailer to transport recycled goods and educate the community.
These are just a small fraction of the charitable efforts undertaken by salon and spas around the country. We know the positive change generated through these efforts come from the heart, but it has also led them to meet new clients, grow their brand and build a reputation to help grow their businesses.
At SASSI, we appreciate the opportunity to work with businesses that embody these values and take these stories as inspiration as we head into 2018.
